Betty Gravett graduated from University of Manitoba with a Degree of Bachelor of Science in Home Economics in 1952. During her career, she held various roles in Dietetics, from managing food services in hospitals to Government facilities, and had an active membership with the Canadian Dietetic Association. Dedicated to the progression of women in professional faculties, Betty joined the Canadian Federation of University Women Edmonton chapter and was President in 1991 - 92. Her passion for food continued through her membership with CFUW in her participation of the Gourmet, Healthy Gourmet and Lunching Out interest groups. She adored her two children, was a great volunteer, an avid traveler and enjoyed gardening, golf, and swimming. This scholarship is provided to elevate women in this profession that Betty loved so much.
Dr. Mary Alice Morrison's personality was enlivening both as a woman and scholar. Born September 18, 1921 in Tofield, Alberta, Mary received her baccalaureate from the University of Alberta, a master's degree in Food and Nutrition from Washington State University, and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry/Nutrition from the University of Wisconsin. She lead one of the first US initiatives (in East Harlem) focused on improving food availability for those living with hunger and in homelessness in NYC. The East Harlem work continues to this day. Mary treasured her days at the University of Alberta and we are both fortunate and proud to be able to sustain some of her legacy back to the Nutrition community.
The Betty L Gravett Undergraduate Scholarship was established in 2023.
