University of Alberta Botanic Garden

The University of Alberta Botanic Garden (formerly the Devonian Botanic Garden) is an award-winning visitor attraction! The Garden features 240 acres of gardens, paths, pools, waterfalls, and streams. Established in 1959, the garden boasts a diverse plant collections that thrive in our northern climate.

Highlights include:

• Aga Khan Garden: a 4.8 hectare Mughal-inspired garden with secluded forest paths, granite and limestone terraces, still pools, waterfalls, and streams.

• Kurimoto Japanese Garden: 5 acres created in the kaiyou (strolling garden) style. Ornaments and structures include lanterns, pagoda, entrance gate, belfry,  azumaya (viewing shelters), Ozawa Pavilion Teahouse and adjoining Ikoi no ba.

• Tropical, Temperate, and Arid Showhouses

• Indigenous Peoples Garden: plants in this area have traditional uses by Indigenous Peoples, including for medicinal, dietary, and ornamentation purposes

• Alpine Garden: contains plants adapted to grow above the treeline of mountains

Lunch is not included in the price of your AGM trip ticket. Plan accordingly. 

• On site is the Patio Café Concession: offering a variety of sandwiches, ice cream, baked goods, snacks, coffee, tea, and cold beverages. Indoor and outdoor seating under the canopy is available. 

• You may bring your own small snacks and bottled water to the garden. 

Shuttle at the Gardens: there is a shuttle with limited seating for those with mobility issues that can take you around the garden. Hop on and off service for 2 hours starting at 11am

Recommended: dress for the weather, wear comfortable shoes, bring a water bottle, sunscreen, insect repellant, and a hat.
