Edmonton - a city with a goal to be environmental friendly and transition to a low-carbon future.

As you arrive in the Edmonton airport terminal (or are waiting to leave) check out the Living Wall, a 2 story living plant wall that purifies the air and provides a relaxing space. As you experience Edmonton you'll find recycling and compost bins next to waste bins in most locations. You will also notice that the city has a single-use plastic ban. The city has many sustainable eateries, shopping, places to stay, and transportation: an extensive public bus network, Light Rail Transit, and extensive bike/e-scooter lanes/trails.

Edmonton has participated in Canada's BOMA BEST environmental assessment and certification program for buildings since 2019, with 8 city buildings receiving a silver award in 2023; the city also constructs new city buildings to LEED standards. Edmonton has the largest rooftop solar installation, the River Valley is an urban park 22x the size of NYC's Central Park, and the city has one of the first fully carbon neutral neighborhoods in Canada.

Edmonton declared a climate emergency in 2019 , co-developed 'The Edmonton Declaration' call to action for mayors to be a leader in climate change, and, in line with the international standards in the 2015 Paris Agreement, has a goal to be carbon neutral by 2050.
